MSFWAR Weekly: A/B Testing My Patience

Store offers, core orbs, and promises I’ll believe when I see them. Plus, tower checkpoints and a War room I’d actually like to try.

There were a few things worth hearing in the latest Strike Spot with RJ. Tower checkpoints, more choices in rewards, and ideas for where War could go. But the part that stuck with me was the explanation for why players are still getting different offers in the store.

Apparently, this is supposed to help us?

RJ described personalized offers as a way to clean up the shop and give players deals that fit their accounts. He said the intention isn’t to create an unfair playing field. You can hear his explanation here.

How they think this is okay and continue to justify it is beyond me. We’ve heard multiple times that they’re changing it or doing something about it, yet somehow it keeps feeling worse.

I would like to see a stop to this A/B testing and treat the players keeping this game alive with some respect. Having to keep having this conversation is exhausting. A cleaner shop sounds great. It doesn’t answer the frustration with different players getting access to different deals.

And then there are the core orbs.

RJ acknowledged the negative response to removing character release core orbs and said they brought them back, with no plans to remove them again. That discussion starts here.

They “fixed it” by making it significantly worse. Nothing worse than getting four shards for 1,200 cores.

I still spend my cores on them because, for me, there isn’t anything else I want to use them on.

On resources, RJ said they’re adjusting rewards based on what players need. He also discussed planned boxes that would let us choose our rewards. Economy discussion · Reward choices

Gold and training modules. That’s what I need.

Being able to choose would be welcome, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, I’m still looking at characters I need to build and the resources I don’t have.

One change that would immediately help is tower checkpoints. They’re looking at saving progress and reconsidering tower length. RJ discusses both here.

Checkpoints should have been there from the start if they wanted to release 40-floor towers. Having to work back through those floors when you make one wrong choice on floor 34 is my biggest frustration with these events.

The number of floors itself doesn’t bother me. Give me checkpoints and I’m fine with 40. I can see newer players running into a different problem, though: they simply don’t have the characters unlocked. Saving progress helps with repetition. It doesn’t give them the roster to keep going.

War is somewhere I’d like to see more interesting changes. RJ talked about further room customization and described War Tech as a starting point. Here’s the War section.

Besides reinforcements and additional rooms, I haven’t noticed much difference in results from the other perks. Overall, War has felt about the same to me.

Here’s something I would like: a room where the Raid perk actually turns off War rules and activates Raid rules. Both attackers and defenders would use their Raid abilities.

I’d like to see Spider-Society in that room.

That’s my suggestion, not something they announced. It would give me a reason to think differently about what I’m putting on defense and what I’m bringing into the attack.

As for actual raids, RJ discussed bosses, minibosses, and bringing more active play back into the mode. He also separately raised a possible Mythic difficulty above Omega, though that isn’t confirmed. Raids · Mythic discussion

I don’t want to manually do raids again. If I’m going to, the rewards need to be really good.

Omega is already very difficult, but feasible. My concern with Mythic is that it would be frustrating and push the majority of the player base further away from the whales.

The last announcement was a Dracula-led vampire team for this year, with Undying taking a back seat for now. Halloween discussion

I don’t really care about vampires. I’d just like a way to get Zombie Kestrel shards already.
